Role Definition
A Structural Designer must have a strong design background, attention to detail, and a desire to use creativity to design structure that enhances the productivity, quality, and safety of facilities. They are very knowledgeable about different structural systems and layouts. A Structural Designer is also familiar with different types of equipment and its support requirements. They support development of the scope, schedule, and budget for projects. This role profile is subject to change at any time.
PROTECT PEOPLE

Consider the safety of Keen Project Solutions construction personnel, the customer, operators, subcontractors, and the general public when designing structural systems.

Identify safety hazards throughout the project around fall hazards, clearance, and egress.

Perform jobsite observations and take field measurements. Collaborate with engineers to solve design issues that may arise.

Review structural shop drawing and submittals.
BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
-
Communicate effectively and support coordination meetings with all parties involved in the project, including the architects, engineers, contractors, sub-contractors, and directly hired tradespersons.

Involvement in technical, trade, and community organizations.

Produce and coordinate construction drawings with a multidisciplinary team.

Effectively support projects, resolve design issues, answer questions, solve production problems, and make sure that final plans are accurate.

Provide basic support for all other departments as needed, along with other assigned duties.
FOCUS ON END GOALS

Properly prepare and execute design services to meet customers’ expectations for clarity, timeliness, quality, completeness, and efficiency.

Communicate effectively to ensure all team members and customers are well informed throughout design process, including effective use of face-to-face meetings, web and phone conferences, collaborative software, design meetings and events, and other common channels of communication.

Maintain awareness of project budget, schedule, and commitments. Communicate to the design team when risks to these items arise.

Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to scope development, specification and technical writing, conceptual design, design management, and estimating.

Follow all relevant code requirements outline in IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, OSHA, and other client or project requirement.
DRIVE INNOVATION

Integrate new technology or environmentally friendly practices into existing processes.

Demonstrate technical drawing proficiency utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, and Inventor.

Demonstrate proficiency to solve mathematical calculations involving angles, triangulation, weights, and costs.

Continue to grow knowledge of different structural systems and design software.

Strategically work with our project partners to pre-plan, identify, and eliminate constraints, and manage risk at all project stages.

Critique designs for safety, constructability, customer usage, and functionality.

Document lessons learned throughout projects and make continuous improvements.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Certificate in construction related design/drafting or higher and at least three years of directly related experience OR at least four years of directly related experience.

Working knowledge of basic computer programs like Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, and on-line collaboration tools.

Proficiency in Autocad and Revit is required, with knowledge of Inventor, Navisworks, etc., beneficial.

Experience working with 3D laser scanning in 3D models, beneficial.

Working knowledge of Tekla and/or Autodesk Advance Steel, beneficial.

Ability to travel with some limited overnights, by air and ground.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sedentary strength demands include exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time.

Continuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and talking.

Frequently requires standing, fine dexterity, sitting, and handling.

Occasionally requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching.

Rarely requires climbing.
