We are seeking a harvest/slaughter intern for Summer 2024 at our Butchery in Sidney, Iowa. Our diverse business requires a quick-study, attention to detail and ability to multi-task in an interdisciplinary team. The intern will support our Butchery management team in the following areas: production, quality assurance, logistics, continuous improvement and other related areas. The intern will work with our sales, operations, marketing, and management teams to support our meats operations.
The ideal candidate will have at minimum completed their freshman year of study at Iowa State and has an interest in cooked meats production. Key majors are Ag Business, Animal Science, and Food Science. A passion for livestock and the meats industry is a plus.
Following a one-two week training period involving hands-on production experience, the intern will spend time in the major areas of the business including:

- Review HACCP procedures and development
- Writing of SOP’s and corrective actions
- Mock recall/audits

- Harvest processing
- Employee management
- Production scheduling
- Weight/yield record keeping
- Livestock handling and welfare
